About CONC'RN

CARE OF NEEDY CHILDREN RIGHTFULLY NURTURED

We all know children are the future of our country and the most susceptible in the society. Hence, CONC’RN came into form in 2003 working in collaboration with the Railway Children United Kingdom. Since then it has devoted itself to change and provide a better opportunity to young lives that are the future of our country. Our primary objective is to provide shelter, protection, health care and nutrition. CONC’RN is an umbrella for unprivileged children and for many children it is the first moment in their life where they feel love, warmth and security. In some cases it a place where children become familiar to live in a house like a family.

It works with railway children who have made the street and the railway station their home. These children live in the platform and survive by begging, searching trains for leftover food from dustbins and sweeping trains. It is common that these children fall prey to gangs and turn into criminal or petty thieves. Often children get addicted to dendrite, which is a form of drug. It is readily available to the children in the railway platform have easy access to it. We are struggling for the cause to stop selling dendrite to children under the age of 18.

CONC’RN aims to rescue and restore young vulnerable lives that are runaway, abandoned by their families or orphans. These young lives are subject to poverty, oppression, and abused. Our mission is to offer suitable prospects for a better and brighter future. We make an effort to transform the young lives, save them from being victims of exploitation, care for the unfortunate children, and put an end its uncountable misery. We are trying to transform communities so that they accept and respect the rights of these children. We believe in sustainable development so that these children have better life hence provide them education, vocational training, funding small-scale business.

CONC’RN supports and runs projects directed at children in danger. Currently it is working in New Jalpiguri station, Kishanganj, Kathihar and Siliguri Town stations. It has reached and changed the lives of many children. It runs a project called National Children Labour Project in Fulbari (NCLP). To start up the project a survey was done where Fulbari in Rajganj was considered as a backward area and child labour is at its peak. Thus, Conc’rn runs a programme where children are educated, given vocational training and receive stipend. Counselling parents and spreading community awareness is also a part of the NCLP programme. It runs several projects regarding healthcare, providing nutrition, educating children and offers vocational training. The organisation also plays a significant role in counselling the children to bring them back in mainstream life and give opportunity to the children such as education and vocational training for sustainable development. It has a drop in centre where railway children receive both day and night shelter and nutrition. It provides transit homes for the children and carries out reunification programme.
